Planning your dream wedding on a budget can be hard work. Cut out the headaches by keeping these key things in mind.

1. Prioritize. The number one most important rule when trying to cut costs and tips for your wedding is to prioritize. Determine the top five things that are most important to you and your fiancée. Scrimp and cut corners on everything else. It is your day, you should be happy with it. Cutting costs does not always mean cutting out what you want.
2. Take your vendors for a “test drive”. Sometimes a deal that is too good to be true is. Sometimes a deal that is too good to be true is just a really great deal! So arrange for a meeting where you can sample their goods or services. They may charge a fee, but in the long run it will be worth it.
   • Most caterers include a taste test to help you decide what to serve
   • Ask the DJ/musicians for a video of their work or if you can drop by on one of their events. (When stopping by, remember you are not a guest, but dress like one. Don’t show up in jeans to a black tie event. This is someone else’s special day, please be courteous.)
3. Give yourself plenty of time. When you’re limited on time you will go with the first option that comes your way. Giving yourself plenty of time allows you to view all your possible options and lets you choose the one that fits your budget and keeps you happy.
4. Be clear about your expectations and make sure they are clear about what they will be providing. Get everything in writing! Don’t get too excited when signing the contract. Read it carefully.
5. Look for package deals. Ask your vendors if they have discounts for other vendors. It’s common to ask your reception venue if they have exclusive deals with a particular caterer, but don’t forget to ask if they have exclusive deals for other services, like the florist or videographer. I got a great deal from a photographer who was recommended to me by my videographer.
